Well it was definitely the VFD. Swapped out the new VFD, changed the control parameters and it was off and running. I guess now I have a manual control only VFD sitting around, time to buy a 3ph 3000rpm motor to put on my vintage drill press and update it to have speed control.

Hey Doug, thanks for the reply. I tried that after a while of thought. Still no response on the VFD. I am guessing the RS485 input on the VFD is dead.
