Stepper Motor with Brake

I'm retrofitting a 90's era ISEL Gantry III CNC router. It is not closed loop.
Easy = All 3 motors work and are being controlled by the Buildbotics unit (no closed loop).
Easy = It has limit switches built into all 3 axis', I'm working on rewiring switches to be separate wires instead of being wired in series.
Problem = The Z-axis has a brake on the top of the shaft. The brake is engaged when no power is applied. Per the website/vintage documents online, its looking for 24v to be applied to push the break off. I will need to program it to apply 24v to a specific circuit only while the z-axis is moving.
Stumped = Non of the pins on either breakout boxes go past 10v. Where can i get a switchable 24v pin?
The z-axis is close to self feeding down. So this motor will need the brake.
Or do i scrap this motor and buy something modern.
Will a new motor be any different?
