MDI input with direct BB connection

Post by smokey9lives » Thu Dec 12, 2019 7:07 pm

Hi All,

I have set up my machine connected directly to the BB controller with keyboard/mouse/monitor and as a Network Client. When using it this way I'm not able to input any code directly into the MDI. I get a cancel icon (o with a slash through it) when I hover over the MDI.

I was able to input into MDI when I set the machine up using BB as a Network Access Point.

Any ideas how to fix this?

Thanks,

Jason

You should be able to run MDI commands from the direct interface as well as the remote interface. You cannot run MDI commands if some operation is running. For instance, if you were running a gcode program and paused it, the MDI interface will be disabled and you will get the 'o' with a cross through it icon when you hover over the MDI entry field.

Please confirm that no operation is running or paused when you attempt to access the MDI entry box.
Please let me know whether this resolves the problem.

So how does the video work in that direct interface method? Where would you hook a video display?

Never noticed the monitor port. I have my controller permanently mounted on a 26x26x12" NEMA 3 enclosure with a clear plastic insert in door to see display. I haven't seen the back of the controller in 2 years

The monitor use without the networking must be very useful. I gotta say, the hardware for this controller is amazing. The software is catching up quickly also.

Using video is really pretty easy. Just plug a MJPEG USB video camera into one of the USB ports and video will appear on up to four displays (including the local display) simultaneously. Note - several improvements were made to video performance in software version 0.4.13.

BTW, the local monitor is quite useful. A lot of people are using touch screen monitors these days to eliminate the keyboard and mouse. I have an ASUS VT168H on my personal machine and it works very well.

Be advised however, that cut paths are not displayed on the local monitor.
