Rotary axis

Post by rblur01 » Tue Mar 02, 2021 6:48 pm

Is it possible to use vcarve and a Y to A wrap post processor to be able to use a rotary axis with the buildbotics controller after changing to the correct step-angle and travel-per-rev? I am trying to just use the X-axis and then the A axis instead of the Y axis.

It is possible to adjust the travel-per-revolution to mimic a rotary axis. I have no experience with VCarve.

Maybe some of the VCarve experts can weigh in on this one?

I got it to work today. I just had to adjust those values in the motor settings and used a modified post processor to wrap the Y axis to the A axis. Glad to see it working great.

I have the buildbotics working for over a year now on a wood cnc with amazing results. I want to add the rotary 4th axis but I'm not clear on the setup. The vectric post processor is not for wraps as far as i can see. So do I deactivate the Y axis motor and activate the rotary as Y? Any help would be appreciated

It seems to me that it would be useful to keep the Y axis active so you can jog into the correct Y position after you get your work piece set in place. Are you also using Vectric? I think I know what you mean, but just to be sure can you describe the term 'wrap'?
