Hi Alex,

I'll be on vacation for the next couple of weeks. I will be checking email and this forum and will respond as best I can, but I might be a bit slow and limited in what I can do until I get back.

Please report back on your experience with the WiFi dongle.

Doug

Doug,

No worries at all, enjoy your vacation! I'm in no rush I'm really just tinkering with the mill. Dongle should arrive tomorrow, I'll keep you posted

Hey Alex, it sounds like we have similar situations. I have a shop with 'spoty' wifi. I have the recommended antenna and I still have problems maintaining a connection. I'm using a cheap internet switch connected between my laptop and the controller's internet port (and no connection to my router). I have tabs on my browser... one for the wifi connection (http://bbctrl.local) and one for the 'hard' connection to the controller (http://169.254.162.169/#control). This 'hard' connection stays connected reliably and I'm now using it as my primary connection to the controller. It may work for you if you have close access between your computer and the controller.

I'm back from vacation. Do you have any updates on this issue? Did the WiFi dongle help?

Hey Doug,

Sorry, no update yet. The dongle showed up a little later than I was hoping and I've been on vacation as well this week. It's still in it's packaging but I'm planning to install it and do some testing once I'm back home.

Doug,

Okay, all set up. I haven't noticed any issues yet so I think that fixed it, although I suspect should the internet briefly go down for an unrelated reason (i.e. not spotty service due to the internal antenna) I suspect the browser would still cause the control to reset once a connection to the router is re-established.

And thanks @rtkracht for the tip - I'll have to see if I can set that up. Since it's a windows tablet there's no Ethernet port but I'll see if I can find an adapter. There's a similar trick I used as a kid to get wifi to my Xbox without buying the dongle :) you can connect it to a computer/laptop with an Ethernet port and configure the laptop as a "pass-through" and use it's wifi adapter instead. I'm curious if doing this would help (doesn't require a network switch in between) since the computer and control are connected through the same network adapter. For now the antenna seems to be OK
