Updated linux libraries, now display is not working - resolved

Post by lukeandrew » Tue Mar 14, 2023 9:21 am

I logged in via ssh to my controller and thought it might be a good idea to update the libraries via apt-get. Now the local screen connected to the HDMI on the controller is black. The machine still boots and shows the splash screen, but I see an empty display and can only see the GUI through a web connection on another machine.

One other item I'm seeing now is a large number of configuration errors each time I boot up. Sometimes these are resolved by re-loading the configuration, but often they display something like motor not configured.

I wonder if I would be better off to re-flash the system to the latest release of the OS and app.

Can you help me fix this issue?

Without a response to add confidence to the approach, I followed the instructions at: https://github.com/buildbotics/bbctrl-f ... ase-system

Note: there are several image files available, I downloaded the latest *raspios*-bbctrl.img.xz from:
https://buildbotics.com/upload/

I opened up the box and pulled the micro SD card and used Rufus to write the image file to the SD card and plugged it in and put it back together.

Then, after crossing my fingers, I powered it on...after a few seconds of boot time, it worked!

It looks like my controller is running a stretch version. Which isn't a big deal really other than it boots into Chromium 60.0.3112.89 that is near 6 years old now. It's old enough that it doesn't run some web apps I'd like to access from the controller itself and from your experience I don't really want to mess with trying to update it.

Do you know what web browser version the 2022-03-30-raspios-buster-armhf-bbctrl.img.xz image has?
