Motor "jitter"

Post by Morrelli » Sat Dec 21, 2024 1:51 pm

Hello All,

I have a 1F with a BB controller. I'm having issues with Y axis motor outputs. These are the steppersonline Nema 23 motors. At mid feed rate speeds I am getting some "audible jitter" in motor movement. It is not affecting carves whatsoever, but its irritating. I have replaced cables with no change. What I have found is that if I swap the Y and Y slave motor cables at the controller itself, the problem follows the controller output, not the cable. So if Y (m1) is fine and Y slave (m2)is making some noise and I swap the m1 and m2 cables the noise moves to the Y (m1) and m2 is smooth as silk. I really don't want to buy a new controller and am looking for any suggestions, even if component level.

Thanks-

First let me confirm that you actually do have a Buildbotics Controller. We do not supply controllers to OneFinity and never have. Please let me know whether you got your controller from OneFinity or directly from Buildbotics.

With that out of the way, it sounds like there is something wrong with the motor port. Here a few suggestions:
  • inspect the pins on the motor port to verify that they look good and are able to make good connections with the motor cable
  • Try reconfiguring your machine by swapping suspected bad port with the port serving your Z axis. Make sure to write down the configuration for the Z axis port first. Then, assign the z motor port to the motor that was serving the suspected bad port and move the Y motor cable to that port.
Let me know what happens.

My apologies, I did not realize the 1F controller was not a collaboration. My Z motor is different than the x,y so I'll explore if that is a possibility.

Thanks-

Sorry, yes it is a 1F controller and the Z port drives a larger z axis motor that is different than the Y's. I am not sure on configuring but will look into your suggestions.

Thank you
