Motor "jitter"

Hello All,
I have a 1F with a BB controller. I'm having issues with Y axis motor outputs. These are the steppersonline Nema 23 motors. At mid feed rate speeds I am getting some "audible jitter" in motor movement. It is not affecting carves whatsoever, but its irritating. I have replaced cables with no change. What I have found is that if I swap the Y and Y slave motor cables at the controller itself, the problem follows the controller output, not the cable. So if Y (m1) is fine and Y slave (m2)is making some noise and I swap the m1 and m2 cables the noise moves to the Y (m1) and m2 is smooth as silk. I really don't want to buy a new controller and am looking for any suggestions, even if component level.
Thanks-
