0-10v spindle control?

It seems like the Buildbotics control doesn't currently have a 0-10v output for spindle control? Is there a work around way to control a spindle system that needs such an input?

Yes, you can connect a 3.3Volt PWM to 10 Volt converter to the pwm output on the DB25 connector. Here is a link to such a device that I have used.

Our next batch of controllers will have this capability builtin.

We expect the next batch to be available in October. There are some fairly significant hardware changes/improvements. We will be making an announcement soon.

The PWM to 0-10V converter that you referenced may not work. It is not clear that it will support a 3.3 Volt PWM signal. If you want to do this, you should find a 3.3V PWM - 0-10 volt converter. This one appears to meet the requirements:

Could you please advise on if there is an easy/cheap way to power it from the controller or if I'm better off getting a separate power supply/adapter?

Well, the device that I referenced says it can run on voltages between 12 and 30 VDC. So, if you run your controller at 30 volts or less, you should be able to tap the power off of the Buildbotics power supply. If not, you will need a separate power supply, or a step down converter.

I got it working with a PWM to voltage converter, and a cheap 24 volt power adapter to power the converter. For anyone who wants to do the same, here is the converter and power adapter I used:

It now works with my spindle motor quite nicely, but it's even better that it will be built in on the newer controller.

The motor driver I'm using has very aggressive accelerations though, is there a way to start and stop the spindle more slowly with the controller?

Well, you could do it in gcode. Start it slowly and raise the speed in increments with pauses between each increment.
